Lessons
Anatomy of a lesson
We teach the principles of natural singing as practiced for centuries. This means we can help young voices develop a beautiful effortless sound and projection. We can also bring back damaged or aged voices and rebuild a wider range.
Depending on what you wish to achieve, the lessons contain a mixture of:
- technical exercises to build range, stamina, projection, and healthy singing,
- repertoire to apply the technique being learned,
- theory and history which is integrated into the singing lesson rather than as separate subjects.
Duration of lessons
The duration of the lesson depends on the age of the student, the current level of singing, and the goal set by the student.
For young children we recommend starting with 20 minutes.
For beginning adults, we recommend 30 minutes.
For more experienced singers and for those who want to delve more seriously into singing and technique, we recommend either 45 or 60 minutes.
Where do we teach?
We offfer in-person lessons in London and Stratford.
We also offer online lessons via FaceTime, Skype, or Zoom.
We also offer workshops and seminars on a regular basis. Check this site or contact us for more details.
What is needed for lessons?
For in-person lessons, bring a recording device.
For online lessons, a computer or phone is needed. For best results, use headphones and a good quality external microphone.
Recording your lessons
Lessons include technical exercises to build your voice.
You need to practice between lessons, ideally daily.
During your individual practice you want to focus on building your voice and not trying to remember what exercises you should do next. Therefore, we encourage all our students to use a recording device to record their lesson so they can repeat the correct exercises until the next lesson.
